ha ha , our very own family blog, this is really cool,
Who would ever think 2 ppl from Pondicheri will come to Malaysia, decide to have 16 kids (cause they did not have any other entertainment) and the kids will have more kids and then they decide to get everyone together through the power of technology. WOW to Tata & Mummy , May your soul rest in peace :-) Luv you all

Very quiet on the Blog site...where is everyone? First we have to be wary over rats and now it is swine flu. Take care everyone! The nattans may now have an excuse to get rid of all swine in the country...okay pig-lovers...you may have to go vegetarian!
I need my lunchen meat & my lap chong, Cant do with out it :-)
At last Laura got to see the latest info on the blog. She was very happy and asked why her dad's photo is not there. So Retna do something about it. Thanks guys keep the good job going.
TEST
2345 JUST CANT GET THIS TO WORK SOMETIMES
OK I THINK I GOT IT HERE LET NE TRY ON THE MAIN PAGE
Selva, There is a "lembu punya susu sapi dapat nama" situation going on.
There is a good office boy collecting all the data, documents and photos for Tuan Retna (sigh! some people reach great heights at even a tender age)
PS: 40 (Empat puloh is also considered a Tender age. Ask him his age and he will swear it is Twenty five)
Grandpa and Grandma Pillay seem to have a generous crown of hair...wonder what happened to the Pillay men? Perhaps they are consuming too much karavadu curry and mocha kotta to boot or is there another reason?...Hey ladies I hope we are not responsible! I know some rats and others are not going to leave this comment go unanswered...but go ahead anyway! Betty is not allowed to read the blogs unless she contributes!!!!
Kudos to the office boy collecting data! What can I say to the "sapi"?
ratna why is there 2 places to coment on can you make it into one page.i see on one there are 18 messages and the other has 26 pls make it to one if you can
thats was me laaaaaaaaaa mike
thats was me laaaaaaaaaa mike
raja n nyanam i am still waiting for your reply about the fly. album
its really important that i have it pls
Finally.... some people admit they are lembu... Good for you Retna... you are the sapi... Anyway... we need and respect our elders for giving support in keeping the family united.Have you all thought about the other cousins... Mama finally things are falling into place and i'm proud to be in a big family where everyone can have a sense of belonging.Mama tak apalah you jadi tangga for all of us. There will be a time we will look back and say 'that was the ladder Retna came up in to create the ASP blog!!!! Yah.... news..news Rajain and my maid said that I will look like Mummy when i become old... Alice Attai what do you say about this? Oh yah! You are the only person who still calls me Betty and i'm happy it brings back my childhood memories where everyone used to call me that. Take care..
Retna, Maybe it is time that you open/create one more posting and call it "Party in May" so that we can post our comments relevant on the subject there.
Selva, ini Lembu ada betul betul kuat dan boleh tarek (old spelling) pikul pikul kanda tau!!! .... and yah! Retna is the sapi...the sapi yeadutha mullu
Quote from Selva:
"I will look like Mummy when i become old... "
tapi you sudah betul betul tua ...apa tua lagi!!!
i am here in kepong will be with roslind till the 13th may.she will be addmitted tomorrow and also pray edwin as he is also in hospital well keep all of you informed.
Our prayers and best wishes to Rosalind and Edwin. Please convey our best wishes to Rosalind, Sweetie.
Betty, I was introduced to you by that name. Is it not your name? Would you prefer me to call you Selva. Now that is the name I always recognized as belonging to your oldest brother....! All this confusion with Rajas and Selvas , Rats and now we have ANONONYMOUS. This cannot be allowed! Will ANON. stand up and be recognized?
Alice understands now (see comments in posting 1) that presently there are 2 posts on this blog and the reason for this.
To clarify this for those who may not be clear on this.
1) Each post can be only 15 pages long and that will be defeating to represent a family blog.
2) It will be more logical to open a post or Subject station for a subject or issue under discussion
So that being said, be prepared for more postings.
Naturally Retna (our Editor in Chief) will suitably caption each posting to better describe the posting,
Please call 012 2013384 if clarification is needed.
Thank You
Hi this is a great site for the clan.I wish to do a check on how far does the clan, goes back to.Tata& Mummy are they both from pondicheri ? I like to do a find .If anybody has a clue or would like the join please do.All are welcome. It would be fun to find out how far the roots go and who was who back then.Does any body have contact with mother land?Best to all.
Leslie, Glad you joined in. Till now the wifee was the only blogger from your side.
Our family has a rich history but we did not get all from mum (Granny for you). The knowledge I have is that Granny was from Pondi and her parents were Teachers (that was something in the old days) Remember when we were young there were some large photos by the side of the alter in Sentul Home. There was a dog and some old folk posing in the photo!? Well they were Granny's Parents if I recall. Pity Raja tells me the photos were destroyed when we kept shifting. The dog apparantly was a favourite pet and the dog was embalmbed and that is the dog in the photo (Honest!!!) As teachers my Grandparents had the photo taken for posterity. In the process they found Christ and you are 4th. generation Catholics. Tata was also from Pondi but he found himself in Singapore earlier and ended up in the Printing works. During the war Dad (Tata) was really challenged and Tata and Granny having a large young family then faced many challanges. The people who can shed more light to the family history will be Victor and Laura and we have to get them to tell us more.
I can vouch we are truly from Pondicherry, India as I have been there and the Vellars are a typically from Pondi. Moreover when we gave up the hindu faith to become Catholics we paid a price.
I regret not getting more from Mum on our history and sometimes it was not easy to get her to talk. I will tell you she was the brains of the outfit and she was well versed in languages and was a well read person. Many a time she, even at the advanced age was able to spew out solutions and answers for my school work. she will pore the newspapers well; though I remember Dad (Tata) spending the better part of his later life reading the papers "The Straits Times"). Granny was a proud Lady but I felt at times she felt the children did not deliver and there is sadness in me. But Your Father (Nathan or Arulmari Nathan) was a real trooper as he was a pious and philial son and this is from one who knows. My two sisters Theresa and Laura gave their best and sacrificed all for the family and I will tell you I am successful because of them. Well since you asked and you are one of the elder of the Grandchildren I felt I owed to tell tou a bit. Besides you spent a great deal of your baby years playing a keeping me company. Raja my brother was a favourite of my sister Katherine and will never leave him from her sight. All said and done we have turned out well enough and for that I fall on my knees and thank God daily. Yes we are a Proud and priestly people and I am sure proud of that. PS Sweety can shed some history on the family too, ask her. What I write here may not accurate (and I beg pardon) but I cannot be very wrong. But remember I was the second last in the family and Tata was already 50 over when I was born.
PS Today our Children know us well and there are no let ups , I pray the same with all the family too.
People, on rereading the posting I sent, I realise that there are some typo errors and I seek pardon.
Retna, maybe we can open a fresh Posting for the family history and can log in our info and get it edited and clarified after these many years and leave the kids some rich history.
Thanks for the info .I still do remember the dogs there were two of them and they were very faithful lads.Is there any one in India that i can check in the web to do a check on the roots.Once agian thanks alot for the history. Its nice to know were we come from,so that we can pass the history on to the childern and they so on to theres .I would like to wish all mothers a Very Happy Mothers Day.May the great lord bless all of them.Best to all.
"I regret not getting more from Mum on our history and sometimes it was not easy to get her to talk"
Mama.... This is exactly what your sister Laura does.. the sometimes not easy to get her to talk. Now, I know where she got that trait from. Thanks Mama, for the family history lesson.I really appreciate it. At least i know a little about our roots and also some good vocab from your writing. Have you thought about writing?
A cat has nine lives... they say
They also say the same of people who had a near death expirence.
Let you tell you mine.
It was in 1961 (I think!)This can be checked out by asking Marirose which year she got married as it has to do a lot with her family.
You see Marirose mother lived in Silibin, Ipoh and decided to spend a few days with the newlyweds (Marirose & Nathan).
Well, all went on fine and the day came for her to depart. The train ticket was bought and she was packed. Off we (my brother, his new wife & mother in law and me!! yeah why me!... there was a reason) went to the Train station.
In those days people did not respect seat numbers or bookings on trains......it was always first come lucky.... and so it was for our case when my brother gave me instructions to run alongside the slowing down train so that I could jump in and leave a parcel on the choice seat for his mother in law.
Run I did with the parcel in hand and as luck would have it I ran smack behind a smelly mama, or Indian Muslim scratcher for those who do not know the terminology (and believe you me they really gave "Old Spice" a run for the money only the opposite kind).
Well, my foot got tripped and I fell headlong between the moving train and the platform. My luck must have been good for smelling the mama, the coach at that moment passing by was a narrow one.
You see in those days the Keratapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) lashed on bogeys that were large and small, narrow and broad. The only standard was the rail wheels were standard.
So headlong I fell clutching the parcel on the railtrack bed and my presence of mind made me roll to the left ie. towards the platform.
In the milliseconds I could hear the shreiks and screams and people did that a lot (scream I mean) and not stare in silence as they do today hoping for some blood.
Finally, (and it was like eternity for a weakling of a 13 year boy I was.)
I looked up and realise I am actually alive and yet it was dark.
Why?!! because a large bogey had come alongside where I was laying.
After frantic manouvering I was pulled up and do not remember how or when the train left but it did leave.
I ended up home with a huge swollen foot so much so I was not able to take part in the mass kelestanics (exercise) that was held at Merdaka Stadium for Merdaka Celebrations that year.
Welll....Cats have NINE lives!!!!
I have my own tale to add...I was only five living with my mum, two other siblings at my paternal grandpa's house in a little village in Kailasapuram, India. My father was on a Colombo plan scholarship studying Agriculture in Gauhati Universiti in Assam. A man and his performing monkey had come to our village and was doing their rounds and collecting money. They came to my thatha's house and entertained us that afternoon and after the performance was over, my sister and I were sent off to have our afternoon nap. As soon as mum and sis were asleep, I snucked out of the house in search of the performing monkey. They were in the village barber's house and there I stood watching the monkey dance and twirl. Nearby, the barber was sitting sharoening his knife while watching the show when suddenly the monkey lunged near me. Now i am actually terrified of animals...I screamed "annan" and the barber put his hands to catch me and he, silly fellow, forgot that the knife was in his hand. He missed the jugular but he cut me very nicely under my chin. You can imagine the blood and the rest of it. The naughty child got exposed and mum who knew first aid did the best she could and i was rushed off in a bullock cart, not a ferrari, to the nearest District Hospital where my cut was clipped and not stitched. I bear the scar till today and it reminds me of my own adventure with death. God always protects us because He has a purpose for our lives and we will remain here until our purposes are accomplished.
When we got married in 1978 and went to India to the village to get my Grandpa's blessings, the barber who was only seventeen at the time of the monkey incident, was sent for. Ken got to meet him then. The barber seemed very bashful.
Since Ken mentioned Calisthenics, I later found out that when were were in Form 4 and we were celebrating 10 years of Merdeka, Ken was on the same field doing the same things i was doing in another part of the field...of course, we had no idea we would actually meet each other 6 years later in the middle of the Indian ocean. Life is full of surprises!
TYPO ERROR: "sharpening his knife" Might not make sense if I did not correct this.Cheers everyone.Any more harrowing stories to share?
Cheers.
